You’re likely more familiar with their NC or NW range which seems more the staple of color matching. The face & body uses their old color system. Also keep in mind face & body dries down it’s not usually as stark of that undertone so the N shades typically becomes not as obviously peachy Many brands describe neutral as not obviously yellow or obviously pink so they consider it a mixture of yellow and pink which is why the neutral tends to be peachy as it’s a mixture of the two and surprisingly works well for many.Īlso, screens vary, the neutral looks peachy while the warm looks more pinkish. When red pulls cool it turns purple but purple undertones aren’t nearly as common as olive undertones. Mac has yellow undertones as cool because it’s the undertone that can truly pull cool toned, the cooler it becomes the more olive toned it becomes. If you look at colors in general, yellow, orange and red are true warm colors while blue, purple and green are true cool toned colors. Their coloring system makes sense/is pretty easy. Having people say Zambie is roughly N50, Mali is NW50 (I just made that up as an example), just gives a better frame of reference. Alternatively, I have a friend who's NC50 and struggles to find foundations because how can you tell if Mali or Zambie are going to be the right depth and undertone. If I'm chatting with someone and they're like I wear NW40, I get a vague idea that they probably have red undertones and are wayy deeper than me than I will not give any suggestions. It sucks, but if you're looking for foundations might pay to learn the MAC system, as bad as it is. Usually if I'm looking for a foundation and asking for suggestions I'd say NC13 with olive undertones. I do use NC10-NC13 to describe my shade because it's kinda been co-opted as a lingua franca kinda thing. I, for the record, don't actually match any MAC foundations either. I will save you my rant on olive undertones and all the others that get missed, but most of the time if you're say shade NC25, any other NC25 should work. The issue is that even with cool undertones there's such a wide range of undertones.
